In March of this year, the event calendar went empty in one go. How long that is going to last is not clear, it was therefore especially nice that we were given the opportunity to handle the reception room and canteen of Avonic.
We are currently in the implementation phase of this project. The workshop is busy with beautiful custom solutions that we will soon place on location.
Within the design team at Boozed there are several designers with a background in the (interior) architecture, so it was very nice to take another trip to our backgrounds.
Our event-builders are generally not used to building . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The cafeteria should last a longer time, because it is a rental location, everything is modular/dismantling and developed.
The background:
Avonic develops and produces PTZ cameras. These are "Pan-Tilt-Zoom" cameras, the kind of camera dressings used to record meetings and conferences, for example.
Business is booming and early this year they had grown out of their jacket and moved to a larger building in Delfgauw.
The office is on the first floor of the building. Here is a small kitchen block that is located right next to the offices of the sales department. There's no proper cafeteria.
On the ground floor there is a warehouse and a large empty space at the entrance, which gives access to the stairs up. Space is now empty and meaningless. Upon entering, you wonder a little where you ended up, and whether you are at the right place. Fortunately you always wait a warm reception by the office manager who comes running down quickly!
The principles:
- Cafeteria/restroom for staff, approx. 15 persons
- Solution to acoustics. Space is now very cold and candy
- Modular solutions that can be used in another location in the future
- The space must become one whole, where everything fits well together. This combined with the large OSB wall that already exists.
- A limited but realistic budget.
- If possible, a link to Delft. Avonic is very proud of her Delft roots.
The impact:
As a basis for space, the floor has been chosen to work with a collage of various blue carpet tiles combined with artificial grass. The artificial grass runs through part of the wall and also returns to the bottom of the stairs. Together, this helps to improve acoustics.
In the room two walls were not so nicely finished. One wall is equipped with OSB plating, as it already exists elsewhere in the room. On the other wall comes a large print cloth, with a photomontage of Delft buildings on the Markt in combination with Avonic's PTZ cameras.
The other walls are made of galvanized silhouettes. To bring the whole together, OSB strips are mounted on all walls and on the cabinets in different colours blue.
For the kitchen is chosen a standard black Ikea kitchen of the type Metod. To give it its own twist, these are also finished with OSB blades and side panels.
The kitchen island doubles like a barmunter with crutches. The tables are mobile and connect nicely.
A lounge area with game computers and a table football table provide relaxation opportunities.
In space plants are placed in various places. We have opted for high-quality artificial plants, because there is not enough daylight in the room for real plants.
By working with artificial plants, we can also paint some plants in colour, so that this again fits nicely with the blue accents in space.
Given the current corona measures, the possibility of a distance of one and a half metres has been taken into account. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to have lunch with everyone at the same time. The space is too small for that, but a game of 1-to-1 table football is possible.
A custom made cough screen above the table football table ensures that corona-proof can be played with enthusiasm.
Graphically we have gone loose with the products of Avonic. With the help of Photoshop, their cameras return to iconic movie moments, which are hung as film posters for decoration. There are also some easter-eggs hidden in the large wallprint, but they still have to find out at Avonic, so we can't show them anything yet.
All in all, it forms a coherent whole with a fresh and modern look. The design exudes warmth and comfort, without sacrificing functionality.
